So if I'm understanding correctly - the guy in the video had to assign the 'weird' IP address to his PC first precisely because the IP address on the MoCA adapter had not been changed from its factory default to one that's in the home network. So the PC/laptop needs to be tweaked to be on the same network as the adapter factory default IP, to connect with the adapter, and to customize its IP for the current home network settings.

The 'weird' IP addresses used initially are because the initial step of configuring the adapters requires communicating with the adapters via the IP address fixed as the factory default, one at a time.

Alternatively, if the adapters allow, just configure them for DHCP IP assignment, and the router will assign them unique IPs from within the DHCP address pool. You can check the router's DHCP allocation range, and then use IP addresses OUTSIDE of this range, but still within the same network, for the IP addresses manually configured into the adapters. Yes, if customizing the IP address of the adapters, you should configure them with IP addresses within the range defined by your router. So that you'll be able to connect to the individual adapters over your home network, in order to access the MoCA diagnostics/statistics information.
